Solution:

Firmware updates to our router line are released periodically to both add functionality and to solve
connectivity issues with ISPs (for example, adding PPPoE support). We make our firmware
available for each router for both the Mac and the PC (Windows) platform.

Please note that in order for the upgrade to be successful, the router needs to be at its default IP
address of 192.168.1.1.

Updating firmware from the Macintosh platform:

Configure your network so that you have Internet connectivity (if the router is not currently
working, bypass it and connect the computer directly to the internet).
Download the appropriate firmware, and decompress it with Stuffit Expander 5.1.3 or
newer. If you try to expand the .hqx file with Stuffit Expander 4.x, you will corrupt the file
and it will not be usable. Connect your computer via Ethernet directly to a LAN port on the
router, disconnecting all other hubs/switches/printers. This step will remove potential
sources of interference to your TCP/IP connection to the router.  Configure your computer's TCP/IP to "Connect via Ethernet" and to "Configure Manually" and enter a static IP address of 192.168.1.2 (with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and a Router Address of 192.168.1.1. At this time, you can leave the
Name Server field blank.)

Open the newly decompressed folder and double-click on the XRouter Series TFTP Updater program. In the window that appears, verify that the server name is "192.168.1.1", that the password is the
correct one (the default is "admin"), and that the filename to the firmware is correct.  Click on the Upgrade button. You should see a progress indicator appear, and you will get an "upgrade was successful, reset the router" message when you are finished. Reset the router by cycling the power.
At this point you are finished with the upgrade and you now need to reset your TCP/IP
configuration so that you have access to the Internet through the router.

Updating firmware from the PC (Windows) platform:

Configure your network so that you have Internet connectivity (if the router is not currently
working, bypass it and connect the computer directly to the internet).  Download the firmware to your computer's normal download location and double-click on the self-extracting file. In the case of the MIH130 XRouter, this will create a new folder containing three files: The firmware itself (a .bin file), a
ReadMe file, and a TFTP Client program.  Double-click either the TFTP Client program to install the Update Firmware program on your PC. Follow the instructions presented to you by the installer
(in the vast majority of cases, you should simply accept the default settings presented to you).
Once the installer is finished, reboot your computer if so asked.  Configure your TCP/IP manually, so that you have an IP address of  192.168.1.2, with a Subnet Mask of 255.255.255.0 and a Default Gateway address of 192.168.1.1. Again, when finished here, reboot the computer.  Click on the Start button, select Programs, and select the entry for "Macsense". Select the entry for "Upgrade Firmware".
In the window that appears, verify that the server name is "192.168.1.1", that the password
is the correct one (the default is "admin"), that the filename to the firmware is correct, and that
the path to the firmware is correct. Feel free to use the "browse" button next to the filename
field to browse to the correct file. Remember that the firmware file is the ".bin" file in the
extracted folder.  Click on the Upgrade button. You should see a progress indicator appear, and you will get an "upgrade was successful, reset the router" message when you are finished. Reset the
router by cycling the power.  At this point you are finished with the upgrade and you now need
to reset your TCP/IP configuration so that you have access to the Internet through the
router.

I keep getting "The XRouter is not responding!" What do I do?

Double-check your TCP/IP settings; the firmware will not update if the computer is unable to
talk to it. This is the reason we prefer a temporary static IP address for the computer.
If the TCP/IP configuration is correct and you still get the error message, try slowly cycling
power to the router four times before clicking on the Upgrade button. This should force an
update to an unresponsive router.
